The SSAs and the RSAs (Rising Star Assistants. Rising Star is another summer program run by SCAD) did training together for the most part with the exception of small meetings with their respective programs about once a day. The training week was Olympic themed! Every morning we started the day bright and early with an Olympic challenge. Some days they were relay races, another day it was minute to win it challenges or Olympic trivia.
We broke up into four 'countries' and on the first day of training you named your country, then we had a competition where you created your country's flag and a chant. The four countries ended up being South Corgington, Citrusland, Artlandia and Danceland (S.C.A.D.). I hailed from the noble country of Citrusland, birthplace of the Lemonlime. Our flag was indeed glorious. In fact, we won best flag! Instead of writing a chant, I brought down my ukulele and my friend Yujin grabbed her guitar and we wrote a 'national anthem:'
"Do you like lemons?
We're citrus-crazy,
Put the lime in the coconut,
And call us maybe...
Oooooo
Do you like lemons?
Oooooo
We're citrus-crazy,
Oooooo
Put the lime in the coconut,
And call us maybe...
Oooooo..."
We didn't win the chant competition, but it was still awesome!
Throughout the week we learned all of the things we needed to learn about such as policies and procedures, ice breakers, what to expect for the program, creating the program schedule, etc. etc in addition to having staff bonding like trips to the Mexican restaurant Carlito's or the end of the week pool party and all of the fun activities. But the best part of training? All of the awesome people I got to meet and am getting to work with this summer!
Now you may be wondering why I put 'Disney' in the title when I have yet to mention Disney. Well, my good friends, it is because one of the people I met during training filled me in on some awesome Disney stuff and really gave me some incite into the audition process!
One of my coworkers for the summer, Caroline, is participating in the Disney College Program this fall and auditioned to become a face character and one her third try--got accepted! This fall she is most likely going to be a face character for Tinkerbell (the character is subject to change based on where they need her most at that time, but they told her that most likely she'll be Tinkerbell)!
She was telling me about how with face characters, one of the main things they will not bend on is height requirements (which I already knew about) and for most of the characters, there is a distinct facial characteristic that you must have (which I did not know about). She mentioned a few of them such as for Tinkerbell it's face shape, as well as a few other characters, but the only one I really cared about was Ariel. And apparently for Ariel you have to have the right nose. I don't know if I have an Ariel nose. But I really hope I do. I've been obsessively comparing my nose to the pictures of the DW Face Character Ariels since I found out.
I've never been bothered by my nose, I mean, it's a lot like my Dad's, but it's fine. I like it. It's served me well. However, now I can't help but wonder if even if I achieve Ariel's body, if my nose will betray me and I won't get the part... But right now, it's about my body and being healthy and fit, so that's what I need to focus on. The other thing I've been worried about it my teeth. I don't have that perfectly straight and white, and same-length-teeth smile like all of the Princesses do. But I like my smile the way it is. So I guess if that becomes a problem in my audition I'll invest in one of those half denture things that pageant girls wear. That way I can keep my own smile, but have my princess one if I need it.
At any rate, enough rambling on for one post, now to all the pictures!

For one of the first ice-breakers, we all made paper Olympic torches and then passed a 'flame' to each one and talked about what we most excited for this summer! |

For another fun activity we made buttons! Look at those beautiful 'staches! |
